Romero's big day not enough in Pawtucket's loss

6/15 Cup of Coffee: While only three of the affiliates were in action Monday night, there was still plenty of interesting action. Pawtucket found themselves in an offensive battle with Louisville, Greenville brought home the lone victory of the evening and the DSL Red Sox found themselves thwarted by their Indians counterparts.

Despite pounding out fifteen hits, Pawtucket could not stop the Louisville Bats (CIN) as they fell 6-5. PawSox starter Kris Johnson went the first 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 3. Pawtucket got on the board in the third, as they collected an RBI single by Niuman Romero and an RBI double by Angel Sanchez. In the fourth, the PawSox would jump out to a 4-1 lead on an RBI single by Bubba Bell and a costly throwing error by the Louisville catcher that allowed Bell to come home. The lead was short lived however, as Louisville scored twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth to go ahead for good. Chad Paronto was charged with the loss for his rough outing in which he went 0.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and a walk. The PawSox attempted a comeback in the ninth, getting a run on a Sanchez RBI single, but could not find enough magic. Fabio Castro went 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and striking out 3. Fernando Cabrera pitched a scoreless ninth inning, recording 2 strikeouts. Romero was 4 for 5 and Josh Reddick was 3 for 3 to lead the Pawtucket offense.

Solid pitching and ten hits by the offense led Greenville to a 4-2 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (FLA). Drake Britton, who is on a strict pitch count, had a dazzling 3.0 inning outing. He allowed just 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. Tom Ebert followed Britton, going 4.0 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 1 hit while striking out 4 to collect the win. Greenville's offense did not come alive until the fifth, when they plated three on a Vladimir Frias RBI single, a Derrik Gibson RBI double and an RBI groundout by Ronald Bermudez. The Drive collected an important insurance run in the eighth, as Shannon Wilkerson smoked a single by the third baseman to bring home the fourth Greenville run. Anatanaer Batista picked up his second save of the season by pitching the final 2.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 3. Wilkerson was 3 for 4, as he raised his average to .314, to lead the Greenville offense.

The DSL Red Sox could only muster two hits as they fell to the DSL Indians 4-1. The Red Sox scored their lone run of the evening in a wild seventh inning. After the Indians quickly got the first two outs, Racell Kortstam was hit by a pitch. After a wild pitch and two walks, the bases were loaded for Xander Bogaerts, who also walked to force home the run. William Cuevas started for the Red Sox, going 5.2 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. Luis Bastardo went the final 3.1 innings, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 4.

Player of the Night: Niuman Romero, who went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and an RBI in Pawtucket's 6-5 loss to Louisville.
