Players of the Week, April 8-April 11: Darnell McDonald & Adam Mills
McDonald, who was the Cincinnati Reds opening day right fielder in 2009, was signed as a free agent by the Red Sox in the offseason. The 31-year-old rode the wave of this year's Opening Day against Rochester, in which he went 4-5 with a home run and five RBI. He finished the week with a gaudy .333/.412/.667 line, while also scoring three runs and grabbing a stolen base.
Mills took the start on April 10 against Rochester, and in an abbreviated outing, tossed four shutout innings. The 25-year-old right-hander gave up three hits and did not allow a walk, while also striking out a batter. However, what separated Mills from the rest of the pack this week was his groundball to fly ball ratio. In addition to his strikeout, he got 10 ground ball outs while allowing just one fly out.
