Players of the Month, May: Ryan Kalish and Felix Doubront
Kalish, 22, posted a line of .345/.430/.586 with 4 home runs and 18 RBI in 87 May at-bats. He hit 7 doubles, scored 20 runs, and swiped 8 bags en route to earning a May 31 promotion to Pawtucket. Before his promotion, Kalish, who was the Red Sox Minor League Player of the Year in 2009, produced a four-game stretch in which he went 10 for 16 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI in the Memorial Day weekend series against New Britain.
Doubront, also 22, earned his promotion by impressing all season for Portland and continued to pitch well in Triple-A, posting an ERA of just 1.48 in 6 starts between both levels in May. He struck out 30 in 30.1 innings and has perhaps performed even better against the tougher competition, fanning 8 and allowing just 1 earned run in 6.0 innings with Pawtucket in May.
