Cup of Coffee: Kristian Campbell goes 4 for 4; Portland rained out

5/3 Cup of Coffee:
It was a bit of a light slate on Thursday night, as Portland got rained out and will play a doubleheader Saturday, but among those that did play, there wasn't too much offense to be had, as Greenville was the only squad to exceed five runs. Nathan Hickey was a member of the multi-hit club for Worcester as Nick Pivetta struggled in his rehab appearance, while Kristian Campbell (pictured) was 4 for 4 in Salem, while teammate Eduardo Lopez added three knocks.

Nick Pivetta struggled in his rehab start, surrendering four runs in three-plus innings of work as Lehigh Valley used a five-run fourth to run away with Thursday's game, which featured a 48-minute weather delay. Pivetta struck out five but allowed three hits and walked four. Brian Van Belle contributed four innings of no-hit relief, allowing just one walk with three strikeouts. The only hitter with multiple base knocks was Nathan Hickey, who continues to get work at first base, while Mark Kolozsvary had the only RBI.

Thursday's game was postponed due to wet weather and will be made up on Saturday as part of a doubleheader.

Greenville did all its damage in the third and sixth, putting up a four-spot in each frame on its way to a strong win. Kristian Campbell was a perfect 4 for 4, knocking a double and a two-run home run. Eduardo Lopez added three hits, including two doubles. The start went to Hayden Mullins, who had just one earned run on his tab. He dealt with traffic, with four hits and three walks, but kept the damage to a minimum. Isaac Stebens had two clean innings of relief as well.

In the evening's only close game, Salem was able to come out on top, resisting the rally by Myrtle Beach, which got the tying run to the plate in the ninth. Antonio Anderson has been struggling at the plate but was able to get two hits, as was Daniel McElveny. Andy Lugo added an RBI double. Luis Cohen was on the mound, giving his team five innings. He surrendered two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. The final Pelicans' run was charged to Michael Sansone, who contributed three innings, while Royman Blanco struck out the side in the ninth.

Player of the Day: A 4-for-4 evening makes for a pretty solid case to be player of the day and that's exactly what Kristian Campbell did for Greenville. The 2023 fourth-round selection has solid contact skills and put them on display on Thursday, even showing a little power with his fourth home run of the year to push his OPS to .960.
