Podcast Ep. #239: The lockout in depth, then locked in on depth


We may have started a podcast in the hopes that the bargaining tables we would discuss would have more to do with player contracts than labor negotiations, but right now, the lockout is the topic du jour, so Chris and Ian went deep on the issues dividing the owners and players and what is at stake. If you like Rage Chris, you will like this. But worry not! There's prospect talk in here too, including an extended debate between the guys about just how deep the Red Sox farm system is right now. If you're among those who think they agree too much, you are going to enjoy this segment!

Minor Notes: Sox sign Taylor Cole, announce Player Development moves



With the Lockout still ongoing, there was not a whole lot going on in the baseball world this past month. There were, however, a few moves on the minor league side of things.

Re-signed Johan Mieses to a minor league contract
The 26-year old Mieses will be back in 2022 for his second full season in the Sox organization. The outfielder split time this past year with Portland and Worcester and hit .233/.323/.484 in 82 games. He has bounced around organizations in the minors, starting out with the Dodgers and moving to the Cardinals for a couple seasons. The outfielder has always showed a good amount of pop, as he has hit 22 or more home runs three times in the minors. He belted 19 long balls and 12 doubles last year. Mieses got three plate appearances in the Dominican League this winter.

Podcast Ep. #238: Prospects warm-up, negotiations chill


While the Red Sox may be holding their Winter Warm-Up for prospects, negotiations between MLB and the MLBPA seem as chilled as ever. Still, we soldier on, discussing the organization's newest prospect camp and the newest class of international free agents along with the club's strategy internationally. Also discussed: the latest on the lockout and Seiya Suzuki rumors, plus some minor transactions. We then hit another bumper crop of great emails, talking about the Red Sox defense and its effect on pitching, player projection, what effect the lockout extending into the season may have in Worcester and Portland, and more.
