Cup of Coffee: Season ends for Greenville and Salem

9/12 Cup of Coffee:
The season has come to an end for the talented Greenville and Salem teams. Portland's regular season will end next Sunday, while Worcester plays until the 28th. David Hamilton (pictured) and Ceddanne Rafaela were two of the offensive standouts on a great day for Portland, while Greenville and Salem suffered blowout losses.

Sunday's game was canceled due to rain. Bryan Mata was scheduled to start.

Four players had multiple hits as the Sea Dogs won with a balanced offensive attack. David Hamilton led the way going 3 for 4 with a double, triple, and his 66th stolen base. Ceddanne Rafaela went 2 for 3 with four RBI but also had a rare throwing error. Stephen Scott went 3 for 3 with a walk and Tyler Dearden went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Three errors led to three unearned runs, but Sterling Sharp allowed just two earned runs over his 5 1/3 innings. The win went to Jacob Wallace who was dominant, striking out three over 1 2/3 hitless innings. Michael Gettys got the save with a scoreless ninth.

It was a forgettable finale for the Drive as the Tourists won easily. Asheville put up eight runs in Yusniel Padron-Artiles's five innings, while Austin Lambright tossed a shutout frame. Jaxx Groshans went 2 for 4, Corey Rosier went 1 for 3 with a walk, and Matthew Lugo went 1 for 4 while being the only player not to strike out.

Salem did have 12 hits but went 0 for 12 with runners in scoring position. Tyler Miller went 3 for 5, and Juan Chacon went 2 for 5 with a double. Johnfrank Salazar and Ahbram Liendo each had two hits, and Roman Anthony went 1 for 4 with a walk. It was a different story on the mound as the Nationals scored 13 times by the third inning. Hunter Dobbins allowed four runs (three earned) over the first two innings, and Reidis Sena was tagged for seven runs while recording two outs. Bryan Lucas was able to limit the damage with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Player of the Day: David Hamilton stole another base and hit his ninth triple in Portland's win over Binghamton. Hamilton has hit safely in eight of nine games in September, with a line of .412/.524/.735 while stealing six bases. This comes after a disappointing August that saw him hit just .200. His prospect stock has fallen this season, but he still has more than twice as many stolen bases as any other player in the system.
