Red Sox select Grant Williams with their 10th-round pick

With their 10th-round pick (310th overall) the Red Sox selected Grant Williams, a second baseman out of Kennesaw State University (Ga.). The 5-foot-10 senior was a Cape Cod League All-Star in 2017 after he hit .326/.410/.378 over 135 at-bats with the Bourne Braves. He was not ranked in Baseball America's top 500 prospect list, but he was listed as the 34th-best draft prospect in the state of Georgia.

After three solid seasons as a starter for Kennesaw State, Williams took his play to the next level in 2018, slashing .305/.399/.462 with five home runs and 29 walks with only 13 strikeouts. In his junior season, he was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the Atlantic Sun Conference after committing only three errors, though his error output doubled in his senior year.

After drafting two high school players in the first two rounds on Monday, the Red Sox went the college route for every pick on the second day of the draft.

Scouting info was compiled from industry publications including Baseball America, Perfect Game USA, ESPN, and MLB.com.
