Cup of Coffee: Mata walks six in only game of the day

4/16 Cup of Coffee: It was a light day on Sunday as Pawtucket, Portland, and Greenville were all rained out. Salem was shut out and Bryan Mata walked six in only four innings as he picked up his first loss of the year.

Pawtucket Red Sox @ Toledo Mud Hens (DET), PPD (inclement weather)
The PawSox game in Toledo was postponed due to heavy rain, and the game will be made up in Pawtucket as part of a doubleheader on April 23.

-----

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NYM) @ Portland Sea Dogs, PPD (inclement weather)
The Sea Dogs game was also postponed with the game being made up as part of a doubleheader on May 10.

There was not much action in the lone game of the day as Salem recorded only three hits while the pitching staff could not keep the Astros off the bases. After entering the year having only walked three or more batters twice in 31 appearances, Bryan Mata has now done that in both of his starts this year in the Carolina League. Mata walked six and allowed four hits over two innings while striking out only two. He limited the damage to only two runs, but Hunter Smith came on in relief and allowed three runs of his own to put the game out of reach. Chris Madera had the most notable offensive performance, going 1 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base.

Rome Braves (ATL) @ Greenville Drive, PPD (rain)
The bad weather was not limited to the Midwest and Northeast on Sunday as Greenville's home game was also postponed. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on June 11.
