Minor Notes: Red Sox prepare for Draft Day

Here are this week's minor league notes:

  • The MLB First Year Player Draft is here and SoxProspects.com has you covered. Check out the full Red Sox draft preview here and all the latest draft news
  • With the Red Sox once again picking in the later part of the first round, as was often the case in the 2000s, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal wrote that Boston needs to "be prepared for a variety of scenarios to unfold."
  • Alex Speier of the Boston Globe also provided his breakdown of how the 2017 draft might go for the Red Sox.
  • Sam Travis (pictured) was demoted to Pawtucket to make room for Dustin Pedroia who is returning from the disabled list. Travis hit the ball well in six games (five starts), going 8 for 17 (.471) with six runs scored. Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald talked with manager John Farrell on why Travis was demoted.
  • Tim Britton of the Providence Journal spoke with former two-way player Brian Johnson about his upcoming first professional at-bat when the Red Sox travel to Philadelphia for interleague play.
  • MacPherson also wrote in the Providence Journal that Edgar Olmos could provide the Red Sox with some options on the mound after he recently threw five no-hit innings out of the bullpen for Pawtucket.
