Applicants should have some prior coding experience and must be willing to take initiative and seek out tasks without a lot of managing. Applicants must be available on a regular basis to run the process after the end of all affiliate games are over each night (often between 10 pm and 11 pm ET each night). The process only takes about 5 minutes of work each night, followed by letting the computer finish an updating process for about 15 minutes. Another aspect of the position is checking for and fixing errors, which is usually about a 15-minute process about twice per week. Backups are available to assist when other commitments arise, but it is expected that the applicant should be able to perform these tasks for the majority of the regular season. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone to gain experience in database engineering and management information.
Position requirements:
- Minimum commitment through at least December 2016.
- Some prior coding experience is necessary. MySQL, PHP, and Visual Basic knowledge necessary, other coding languages helpful.
- Computer science background preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Access and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Professional attitude and demeanor.
- Willingness and availability to post nightly updates to the server for at least 90% of the time during the regular season.
- A basic familiarity with SoxProspects.com and with the Red Sox minor league system is necessary. Top-to-bottom expertise is not necessary, but the more background the applicant possesses already, the better.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
This is a volunteer position, as are all positions on the SoxProspects.com staff. We're looking for someone who wants to gain experience and learn. However, we still expect professional applications.
If you are interested in applying for the position, please email info@soxprospects.com by 2:00 pm ET on February 4, 2016. Please provide a resume and a brief overview of your skills and experience with respect to the requirements outlined above. We look forward to hearing from you!
