Fall/Winter League Roundup: Championship series underway

This week's roundup covers play for the period of January 18-24. For the full list of Red Sox prospects participating in offseason action, check out our Fall and Winter Leagues page, which will be updated continuously through the end of the offseason.

Dominican Professional Baseball League

Not much happened in the Dominican League this past week for Red Sox players. Roman Mendez appeared in Este's one-game playoff against Escogido and went 1/3 of an inning, allowing four hits and an earned run in the loss. Marco Hernandez has yet to make an appearance for Licey, which is currently down four games to one in the best-of-nine championship series.

Venezuelan Professional Baseball League
Sandy Leon is 5 for 20 with two RBI, a walk, and a run scored in the league's championship best-of-seven series. His Aragua squad is down two games to one to Magallanes.
Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)

In the league's championship series, which started on Friday, Mayaguez leads Santurce two-games-to-one in the best-of-seven. Aneury Tavarez, who joined Santurce after competing in his native Dominican for most of the offseason, is 0 for 7 with a walk in the final series. None of the three Red Sox who suited up for Mayaguez during the season have played in the series, the most noteworthy being Christian Vazquez, who had been serving as the team's designated hitter, but is already back in the United States working out, per reports.

In Caguas' final three games of the round-robin portion of the playoffs, Henry Ramos  (pictured) went 4 for 12 with a walk and an RBI. Bryce Brentz went 0 for 4, while Rusney Castillo and Pat Light did not appear. Jeremy Rivera made a start for Mayaguez and went 2 for 4 with two runs while Tavarez went 1 for 4 with a walk.
