Fall/Winter League Roundup: Brentz sees first action


This week's roundup covers play from the period of December 14-December 20. For the full list of Red Sox prospects participating in offseason action, check out our Fall and Winter Leagues page, which will be updated continuously through the end of the offseason.

Dominican Professional Baseball League

Marco Hernandez started the week hot, going 2 for 3 with two doubles and a run scored on Tuesday, but proceeded to go 0 for his next 10 to close out the week. Aneury Tavarez was 2 for 8 with an RBI in three games this week.

Roman Mendez was the only Red Sox pitcher to appear in the Dominican League last week. He appeared in two contests, tossing an inning of relief, allowing a run on two hits and two walks. He picked up the loss in Wednesday's contest against Licey.

Venezuelan Professional Baseball League

Sandy Leon is the lone Red Sox positional prospect still in action in Venezuela. He went 3 for 12 with three runs scored and an RBI in four contests. Edwin Escobar made his seventh start of the offseason on Wednesday, allowing one run on one hit and two walks in just 1 2/3 innings of work.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)

Christian Vazquez was just 3 for 22 this week, with two doubles, a triple, and two RBI in five games. Jeremy Rivera entered just one game this week, getting caught stealing on Wednesday as a pinch runner. Henry Ramos was 4 for 15 with a double and two RBI, to have the best week of his off-season thus far. Bryce Brentz (pictured, above) saw his first action of the off-season as he began play for Caguas. Brentz was 5 for 16 with a home run and two RBI in five contests.

Mexican Pacific League

The newly signed Ali Solis was just 1 for 11 in five games played this week. Solis, who was officially signed on Tuesday, has hit .235/.254/.343 with three home runs and 23 RBI for Culiacan, serving as their starting catcher.
