Fall/Winter League Roundup: Margot, Devers debut in Dominican

This is the first in our series of weekly roundups of the Fall/Winter Leagues. Coverage will continue every Monday into January. For the full list of Red Sox prospects participating in these leagues, check out our Fall & Winter Leagues page, which will be updated continuously through January. This week's roundup covers the period of October 7-18.

Arizona Fall League

Games started on October 13, with six Red Sox prospects suiting up for the Scottsdale Scorpions. First baseman Sam Travis appeared in all three games thus far, going 3 for 13 with a double and an RBI.

Fellow infield mates Carlos Asuaje and Tzu-Wei Lin each collected their first hit in limited action.
On the mound, Aaron Wilkerson received the start on Thursday against Glendale, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in a 3 1/3 inning no-decision. Relievers Kyle Martin and Danny Rosenbaum each made one appearance out of the bullpen, and did not allow a run.

Dominican Professional Baseball League:

Action kicked off on October 15 with two top prospects seeing action. Rafael Devers (pictured, above), playing for Escogido, is 1 for 8 with a double in his first two games. Manuel Margot is 3 for 8 with a double and an RBI in his first two contests for Este. Marco Hernandez, suiting up for Licey, is off to a hot start, going 4 for 10 with an RBI and two runs scored.

On the pitching side, Roman Mendez has allowed four unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Venezuelan Professional Baseball League

Since action started on October 7, all the prospects that have seen action are currently minor league free agents. Carlos Rivero, playing for Lara, has gotten off to a hot start. The third baseman is hitting .333 with a home run and four RBI in five games. Chris Marrero, playing for Margarita, is hitting .375 with a double and an RBI in nine contests.

On the mound, Luis Diaz has gone 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in two starts for Caracas. Fellow starter William Cuevas is 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA after two starts for La Guaira.

Venezuelan Liga Paralela:

The Liga Paralela is essentially a minor league for the Venezuelan winter league. The Red Sox have 25 players assigned to the "Boston" squad. Since action began on October 7, the Boston squad is 6-2. At the plate, Raiwinson Lameda is hitting .531 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 32 at-bats. Imeldo Diaz, who has played in all eight games, is hitting .367 with a home run and eight RBI.

Eduard Bazardo is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA over his first two starts. Argenis Martinez and Ritzi Mendoza have each yet to allow a run in both of their relief outings.
