Fall/Winter League Roundup: Weeks helps Mayaguez advance to finals

This week's roundup covers play from the period of January 12-19, a light week with very little Red Sox activity. For the full list of Red Sox players participating in offseason action, check out our Fall and Winter Leagues page, which will be updated continuously through the end of the offseason.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)

Jemile Weeks (pictured, right) appeared in four games, going 4 for 16 with two doubles, and a run scored. Mayaguez advanced to the Puerto Rican Championship against Santurce with an 8-5 record in the round robin playoffs.

Henry Ramos did not play for Caguas, in large part because he was in Boston for the Red Sox Rookie Development Program. Caguas finished the round-robin 2-10, and were eliminated.

Australian Baseball League
Mike McCarthy received the start on Saturday, taking the loss against Canberra. McCarthy hurled three innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk.

Jorge Marban saw his lone action of the week on Sunday, tossing a scoreless inning of relief against Canberra.

Colombian Professional Baseball League
Sergio Gomez pitched a third of an inning in Cartagena's game two loss in the league semifinal, which the club eventually dropped, three games to one.

Panama Professional Baseball League (Probeis)
Pablo Urena had a pair of hitless at-bats on Monday, going hitless. (At present time, the box scores from the league's final three days of the regular season are unavailable.)

Urena's Caballos de Cocle squad took the first two games of the best-of-five championship series on Sunday and Monday. Cocle will try to clinch in game three this evening.
