Players of the Week, 7/28-8/3: Matt Barnes & Sam Travis
Matt Barnes, SP, Pawtucket Red Sox - 1 G, 7 IP, 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB/10 K, 0.29 WHIP, 12.86 K/9, 5.00 G/F, .000 BAA, .087 OPSA
Barnes put together his finest performance in weeks August 2 against Columbus (CLE), striking out ten in seven no-hit innings and allowing only two walks. Having struggled all year with inconsistency, this outing represents the third solid start in an row for Barnes and may represent the start of a strong push to season's end. Barnes's strong performance drew all but one vote in this week's Pitcher of the Week polling. He is currently the twelfth-ranked prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
Sam Travis, 1B, Greenville Drive - 6 G, 25 AB, 26 PA, 17 H, 2 2B, 1 3B, 5 R, 7 RBI, 1 BB/2 K, 1 SB (0 CS), .680/.692/.840
With what was arguably as impressive a performance, Travis outdid his pitcher counterpart in one key respect - garnering every vote in his respective poll. Travis succeeded in hitting his way out of the New York- Penn League, earning a promotion to Greenville before the week was out. He introduced himself to Low-A pitching by going 3 for 4 with a double against Rome (ATL) August 2. He is currently the twentieth-rated prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
