Players of the Week, June 23-29: Sean Coyle & Allen Webster
Sean Coyle, INF, Portland Sea Dogs - 6 G, 21 AB, 28 PA, 11 H, 2 HR, 2 2B, 1 3B, 7 R, 12 RBI, 7 BB/3 K, 2 SB (0 CS), .524/.643/1.000
The Sean Coyle hit parade continued to roll along this week as he picked up hits in each of his six games played and recorded three multi hit games: 2 for 4 with a homer against New Hampshire (TOR) June 23, 3 for 4 with a double at Reading (PHI) June 26, and 3 for 4 with a double and a triple, also against Reading to close out the period. It was just announced that Coyle will be replacing fellow Sox prospect Mookie Betts on the United State's Futures Game roster. Coyle was also named Eastern League Player of the Week for the same period. In the midst of a breakout campaign, he is currently the fourteenth-ranked prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
Season Line: 53 G, .361/.440/.612 (66-for-183), 9 HR, 17 2B, 1 3B, 38 RBI, 22 BB/47 K, 12 SB
Allen Webster, SP, Pawtucket Red Sox, 1 G, 7 2/3 IP, 1-0, 2.35 ERA, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB/9 K, 0.65 WHIP, 10.57 K/9, 3.67 G/F, .185 BAA, .407 OPSA
Webster gave up two earned runs in his sole outing of the week June 27 against Norfolk (BAL), but he sufficiently impressed the voters with his strong 0.65 WHIP, five hits and zero walks, and K/9, 9 strike outs in seven innings of work, to separate himself from the field. This strong outing continues his run of success dating back to May 30, not allowing more than three runs or working less than 5.1 innings per start. This is his second SoxProspects.com Player of the Week nod of the season, having previously won for May 26-June 1. Webster is currently the fourth-ranked prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
