Cecchini to be called up; Wilson optioned

The Red Sox will call up third baseman Garin Cecchini prior to Sunday's game and will option Alex Wilson back to Pawtucket according to WEEI's Alex Speier. The call-up is expected to be short lived with Stephen Drew working his way back to Boston.

Cecchini was drafted out of Barbe High School, Louisiana in the fourth round in 2010. The 23-year-old has earned the promotion with a strong .278/.354/.335 performance thus far in 2014. In 176 Triple-A at-bats Cecchini has hit seven doubles and one home run. Cecchini's 2014 performance thus far is a step down from the impressive season he put up in 2013, when he hit .322/.443/.471 between both Salem and Portland with 33 doubles, seven triples and seven home runs. Across four minor league seasons, Cecchini's on-base percentage rests at a lofty .408.

Cecchini, the older brother of Met's prospect Gavin, was added to the Red Sox' 40-man roster prior to this season.

Wilson, meanwhile, will return to Pawtucket, where he has spent most of 2014. Wilson has not pitched since a game against the Rays on May 25, after which he was originally sent back to Pawtucket, only to be recalled due to an injury. In one major league inning this year, Wilson owns a perfect ERA. He also boasts a 1.42 ERA across 19 Triple-A innings this season.
