Fall/Winter League Roundup: Playoffs begin, Reed remains hot

With the regular season coming to a close in most of the offseason leagues this week, Red Sox prospects began to star for their prospective squads in the playoffs.

This week's roundup covers December 30 through January 5.

Dominican Winter League:

The round-robin playoffs are currently in progress with Escogido leading the way with a 6-2 record. The only Red Sox player to see time this week was Licey's Rubby De La Rosa, who faced three batters, allowing a walk, sacrifice bunt, and a three-run home run to take the loss against Escogido on Friday.

Mexican Pacific League:

The LMP playoffs take a more traditional format. Hermosillo, featuring Sox Nate Reed and Jesus Loya, leads Guasave, 3-1, in their best-of-seven first-round series.

Reed received the start on Thursday, picking up the victory for his six innings of work. Reed allowed just two hits and two walks while punching out seven.

Loya went 5 for 14 this week, with an RBI and a run scored.

Venezuelan Winter League:

J.C. Linares started the week strong as Zulia's starting right fielder, going 3 for 3 with a double on Friday. He went 1 for 7 over the next two games. Zulia is 1-2 in the round-robin playoffs.

Mario Martinez saw his season come to a close after he went 1 for 4 in the last game of the regular season, as Lara failed to reach the playoffs.

Heiker Meneses had a busy week, playing in five games as La Guaira's starting shortstop, going 5 for 14 with four doubles. La Guaira stands at 1-2 in the round-robin playoffs.

Puerto Rican (Roberto Clemente) Baseball League:

Jeremy Kehrt received a start on Sunday, Mayguez's third game of the round-robin playoffs, lasting 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and four walks, striking out three in a no decision. The Indians are 3-0 to lead the playoff chase.

Henry Ramos, starting in right field for Ponce, went 4 for 12 with four RBI. His club stands at 2-1.

Australian Baseball League:

Stefan Welch went 3 for 18 with two doubles, a triple, and two RBI in five games this week. The ABL regular season runs through the end of this month. His Adelaide Bite sit tied for fourth place, one game out of a playoff spot, with three weekends of play remaining.
