Fall/Winter League Roundup: Jesus Loya solid at the plate in Mexico

All of the offseason leagues are well into their season, but that doesn't prohibit movement from the personnel. Alex Hassan, J.C. Linares and Stefan Welch are all new to their respective leagues relative to their teammates.

This week’s roundup covers Nov. 25-Dec. 1.

Dominican Winter League:

Hassan, the only Sox player to see action, got into three games during his second week in the DWL. He finished 3 for 11 with a double, a walk and six strikeouts.

Mexican Pacific League:

After seeing single at-bats in three games, Jesus Loya got back-to-back starts and made the most of it. He went 4 for 8 with a homer and four RBI.

Venezuelan Winter League:

Linares played in a quartet of contests during his first week in the VWL, turning in a 4-for-15 effort with a double and three RBI.

Puerto Rican (Roberto Clemente) Baseball League:

Righty Jeremy Kehrt pitched for the first time in more than a week, but he was lit up for five runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Christian Vazquez managed a single hit and two RBI in 13 at bats. Henry Ramos, however, continued a strong stretch by going 5 for 14 with a double. He has recorded at least one hit in eight of his last 10 games.

Venezuelan Liga Paralela:

Jose Vinicio has maintained his hot fall with a 6-for-16 week. He ranks third in the league in batting (.354) and plugging percentage (.545). Victor Acosta went 5 for 15.

Carlos Garcia allowed two hits in five scoreless innings in his only action of the week.

Australian Baseball League:

Welch had an uneventful 2013 debut in his home country. He finished 1 for 11 with an RBI and run scored in three games.

Colombian Professional Baseball League:

Righty Sergio Gomez is up to 7 1/3 scoreless innings of relief on the season. He owns a 0.95 WHIP, six strikeouts and two walks.
