Anthony Ranaudo named Eastern League Year-End All-Star

The Double-A Eastern League has announced its Year-End All-Star selections, and the Portland Sea Dogs are represented by right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo. Ranaudo, who was also recognized as an All-Star at midseason, is the first Sea Dog to earn Eastern League postseason honors since 2011, when Will Middlebrooks and Chih-Hsien Chiang were honored.

Ranaudo, 23, was with Portland for the first four months of the season until he received a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket. The former LSU Tiger, taken 39th overall in the 2010 draft, took a huge step forward in his second time through Double-A. After battling an injury-plagued 2012 season, Ranaudo began 2013 with a splash, winning the SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month in both April and May and carrying a 1.45 ERA through his first ten starts.

At the time of his promotion, Ranaudo was leading the league with a 1.094 WHIP and .204 opponent's batting average. Through 109 2/3 innings in 19 starts, he was 8-4 with a 2.95 ERA  notching 106 strikeouts against 40 walks.
