Prospects traded by the Red Sox since 2005

Last week, I took a look at which prospects the Red Sox might make available at the trade deadline. For an idea of what types of "prospects" the club has traded in the past, here's a list of minor leaguers that Boston has traded since the spring of 2005, sorted chronologically by the date of the trade (along with 2013 stats as of July 22). Note that this list does not include the full-fledged major leaguers that the team dealt during that time period or the minor leaguers that Boston sent to other teams in exchange for cash considerations.

Ultimately, only a few traded Red Sox prospects have gone on to become long-term impact major leaguers: Hanley Ramirez, Justin Masterson, and Anibal Sanchez.  (Admittedly, Masterson was essentially already a full-fledged major leaguer by the time he was traded).

Some still have the potential to develop into long-term impact players, such as Josh Reddick, Anthony Rizzo, Casey Kelly, Nick Hagadone, Roman Mendez, Raul Alcantara, Engel Beltre, Stolmy Pimentel, Stephen Fife, and Miles Head

A handful of others have gone on to become cost-effective major league contributors, ranging from valuable platoon players to replacement level up-and-down players. This list would include the likes of David Murphy, Michael Bowden, Tim Federowicz, Kyle WeilandYamaico Navarro, Chris McGuiness, David Pauley, and Luis Mendoza.
