Holt called up to Boston, Diaz optioned

With Stephen Drew now on the disabled list, the Red Sox have called up Brock Holt to help out the left side of the infield. To make room for Holt, Jonathan Diaz was optioned to Pawtucket. Holt should split time with Brandon Snyder at third base, with Holt providing the better glove while Snyder offers a little more with the bat. Holt is in tonight's starting lineup, batting eighth and playing third base.

Holt, who came over with Joel Hanrahan last winter, started the season off slow, batting just .172/.257/.172 in his first 30 games in Pawtucket, but he has since turned the corner, hitting .342/.403/.405 in his next 31 games. Holt would have likely been called up in late June once Drew initially went down with the injury, but Holt hurt his oblique on June 16 and did not return to game action for two weeks.
