Red Sox select Nathan Minnich in the eighth round

With their eighth round pick, the Red Sox have selected Nathan Minnich, a senior first baseman from Shepherd University (WV).
Minnich, a 6'3", 240 lb. first baseman, was recently named the Tino Martinez Division II college baseball player of the year. In 2012, Minnich led the Shepherd Rams by hitting .487/.645/.980 with 21 home runs and 72 RBI. A left-handed hitter, Minnich has led Shepherd in walks each season of his four year collegiate career.
