Red Sox select J.T. Watkins in the tenth round

J.T. Watkins (U.S. Military Academy)
With their tenth round pick, the Red Sox have selected J.T. Watkins, a senior catcher from the United States Military Academy (NY).

The 6'0", 190 lb. Watkins  is the son of Red Sox scout Danny Watkins. In 2012, Watkins hit .316/.424/.481 with 5 home runs and 31 RBI. He is known for having an impressive throwing arm from behind the plate, throwing out 52.4 percent of base stealers in 2011 and 51.7 percent in 2010. Watkins is regarded as a leader behind the plate who plays the game with passion and is known for his ability to call games and be rock solid defensively.

The 22-year-old Watkins played in the Cape Cod League for the Chatham Anglers last summer, collecting just 5 hits in 47 at-bats.
