Drake Britton promoted to Portland

Drake Britton (drivfan08)
After a terrific May in which he threw 25.2 innings with a 2.10 ERA, Drake Britton has been promoted to Portland. The move was first reported by Salem broadcaster Evan Lepler. Britton, who just turned 23-years-old last week, was a 23rd-round pick in the 2007 draft. He put himself on the map with a great 2010 in Greenville, his first full season back from Tommy John surgery. Unfortunately, he regressed in 2011 with Salem, and returned there to begin the 2012 season. After giving up 23 runs in 19.1 innings in April, he turned the corner in May.

Britton gave up zero earned runs in four of his five May starts, and struck out 29 while walking only seven. During his April struggles, Britton talked in-depth with SoxProspects Senior Columnist Jon Meoli, and showed confidence that he would improve. He was right, and was rewarded with a promotion to Double-A.
