Bradley, Shaw, Bogaerts, Olmsted named to Carolina League All-Star Game

The Salem Red Sox announced that four members of their squad, outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr., infielders Travis Shaw and Xander Bogaerts, as well as pitcher Michael Olmsted, will be participating in this year's Carolina League All-Star game.

Bradley Jr., 22, is in his sophomore season as a member of the Red Sox organization after being drafted in the first round of the 2011 amateur draft. After splitting time between Short Season-A Lowell and Low-A Greenville last season, Bradley has taken off in 2012. Leading the Carolina League in batting average, doubles (26), hits (82), OBP and OPS, Bradley currently is hitting .380/.491/.560 with 3 home runs, 32 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 61 games this season.

Shaw, 22, is also in his second season with the Red Sox organization, making his debut last season with Lowell and Greenville after being drafted in the 9th round of the amateur draft. Like his teammates Bradley, Shaw is also putting together a season to remember, being second in the Carolina League in RBI (46) and slugging percentage at .562. For the season, Shaw is hitting .319/.416/.562 with 9 home runs and 46 RBI in 59 games.

Bogaerts, 19, is showing that he can produce at a high level as one of the youngest players in the Carolina League after hitting .260/.324/.509 with 16 home runs and 45 RBI last season with Low-A Greenville. Thus far in 2012, Bogaerts is hitting .288/.360/.482 with 8 home runs and 35 RBI.

Olmsted, 25, is in his second season with the Boston organization after signing as a minor league free agent. Olmsted has bounced around in his career, beginning his professional experience with the New York Mets in 2007 and playing in Japan and the Independent Leagues in 2010 and the beginning of 2011. Olmsted had a stellar 2011 with Greenville, compiling a 1.59 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 28.3 innings pitched out of the bullpen. Serving as the Red Sox closer this season, Olmsted has attained a 1.57 ERA with 12 saves and 33 strikeouts in 23.0 innings pitched.
