Players of the Week, April 30-May 6: Matt Barnes & Jose Iglesias
Matt Barnes continued his season-long run of success and Jose Iglesias let his bat do the talking for a change last week, earning them SoxProspects.com Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Barnes took the hill last Saturday at Winston-Salem (CHW) and allowed a single earned run on four hits, walking one but striking out 12 over 6.0 innings pitched and earning the win in his High A debut. This is Barnes's fifth consecutive Player of the Week win, which ties him for most wins in a season with Clay Buchholz in 2007, an accomplishment all the more impressive by their being consecutive.
Jose Iglesias played in five games last week for Pawtucket and in each of them he would collect two hits, ultimately going 10-for-18 and posting a .556/.619/.722 line with a double and a triple and collecting three bases-on-balls while striking out only once. On the season Iglesias is batting .243/.319/.282 with two doubles and a triple in 103 at bats over 27 games.
Barnes and Iglesias are currently ranked the fourth and fifth rated prospects in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
