Per Brian Macpherson of the Providence Journal on Twitter, the Red Sox have optioned right-hander Stolmy Pimentel to Double-A Portland.
He suffered a lat strain on February 20 and did not appear in a game for the big league club this spring. The injury was not initially deemed serious and was supposed to set him back only a few days.

The 22-year-old Pimentel split last season between High A Salem and Double-A Portland, compiling a 6-13 record with a 6.79 ERA in 26 appearances (25 starts). Pimentel will look to rebound from a season that saw him struggle with consistency and control. He is currently ranked as the 17th-best prospect on SoxProspects.com.
