Harper's pefect day helps carry Scorpions past Saguaros

11/4 Cup of Coffee: Thanks to a pair of three run home runs and 16 hits, the Scottsdale Scorpions chopped down the Surprise Saguaros, 10-6.

The Scorpions wasted no time getting on the board, plating five runs in the first on a Darin Ruf (PHI) RBI single and a Cody Overbeck (PHI) three run home run. In the third, Scottsdale added two more runs on a solo home run by Bryce Harper (WAS) and a Ryan Dent sacrifice fly. Dent knocked in another run in the fifth on a ground out, giving the Scorpions a commanding 8-1 lead. After Surprise scored three in the bottom of the fifth, Scottsdale responded with two of their own in the top of the sixth on a Harper RBI single. The Saguaros scored twice in the seventh to pull within four, but were shut down the rest of the contest, preserving a Scottsdale victory. Harper, who is hitting .474 in his last 10 games, was 3 for 3 with a home run, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 walks.

Dan Butler hit second and played catcher for the Scorpions, going 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Dent was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI as Scottsdale’s third baseman. Jeremy Kehrt made the start for the Scorpions, picking up the victory for his 2.0 innings pitched, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 2. Will Latimer added 2.0 innings of relief, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk, punching out 2.

The Scorpions will look to make it two victories in a row this evening as they square off against the Mesa Solar Sox at 9:35 EST.
