Red Sox sign 10th rounder Cody Koback
According to Baseball America's Jim Callis, the Red Sox have signed 10th-round pick Cody Koback, a center fielder out of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
While he also pitched in his time with the Pointers, he led the team with a .424/516/.701 slash line in 2011 with 8 home runs and 47 RBI. He played just 9 games in his 2010 before suffering a season-ending injury, but hit .313/.379/.542 in his freshman season in 2009. In the Northwoods League last summer (a wood bat league), Koback hit .305. Scouts are impressed with his well-above average speed as well as his athleticism.
Listed at 6'0", 185 lbs, Koback was also a member of Wisconsin's American Legion State Championship team in 2007 and has been added to the roster of the GCL Red Sox.
