Players of the Week, July 25-31: Dan Butler & Michael Olmsted


The Sox system's full season class A affiliates stole the spotlight last week as Salem's Dan Butler and Greenville's Michael Olmsted were recognized by the community as SoxProspects.com Player and Pitcher of the Week of July 25-31, respectively.

Butler batted .409/.552/.727 with two home runs and a double in seven games, scoring four runs, batting in six, working six walks and stealing a base. He was also named Carolina League Player of the Week for the same period. In 90 games in 2011, all with Salem, Butler has posted a .247/.350/.417 line with 11 home runs and 20 doubles, batted in 66 runs and has stolen four bases.

Olmsted, a right-handed reliever, made three appearances last week, working five shutout innings earning saves July 25 at Hagerstown (Nationals) and against Charleston (Yankees), allowing only two hits and a single walk while striking out 10 opposing batters. Over 13 appearances in 2011 (three with the GCL Red Sox, 10 with The Drive) Olmsted has allowed three earned runs on nine hits for a 1.29 ERA, striking out 33 while walking only six and holding hitters to a .134 average in 21.0 innings.

Honorable Mention: Greenville's Xander Bogaerts was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week.
