Players of the Week, 8/15-21: Hector Luna & Hunter Cervenka
Pawtucket's Hector Luna bounced around the diamond last week, lining up at third, first, and second bases, but covering all those bases didn't impair his bat; and Lowell's Hunter Cervenka made a single appearance out of the bullpen but put in a week's worth of work, earning them both SoxProspects.com Player and Pitcher of the Week honors.
Luna was busy at the plate as well as in the field, posting s .500/.556/.667 line with a home run and a double in 24 at-bats over seven games. He also scored six runs, batted in seven, took three bases on balls, and stole a base. In 102 games with Pawtucket in 2011 the 31-year-old journeyman infielder, signed as organizational depth during the offseason, is hitting .282/.350/.452 with 13 home runs, 20 doubles and three triples in 383 at-bats.
Last Saturday Hunter Cervenka entered a tied 1-1 game against Staten Island (NYY) in the sixth inning in relief of starter Jason Garcia and pitched five innings of his own, shutting them out the rest of the way and allowing only a single hit, striking out nine while walking none and earning the win in extra innings. On the year he owns a 2-8 record and one save in 20 games (four starts, all with The Spinners) between Lowell and Greenville, allowing 52 earned runs on 62 hits, striking out 64, walking 50, and holding opposing batters to a .249 average.
