Red Sox select Noe Ramirez in 4th round

With the 142nd overall pick in the draft, the Red Sox selected Noe Ramirez, a right-handed pitcher out of Cal State-Fullerton.

Listed at 6'3", 180 lbs., the 21-year-old Ramirez has a lanky frame and has pitched as both a starter and a reliever for the Titans, though he projects more as a bullpen arm. This season, he made 14 appearances (13 starts), pitching to an 8-4 record with a stingy 1.69 ERA. He was second on the team in strikeouts with 103, while walking just 20 in 90.2 innings pitched. Opponents hit just .179 off of Ramirez in 2011. Cal State-Fullerton was eliminated from its NCAA Regional by Illinois yesterday, so Ramirez's college season is finished.

Ramirez also pitched with Team USA's collegiate team in 2010 and traveled with the squad to Japan to face international competition. Making nine appearances out of the bullpen for Team USA, he had 5 saves with a 2.70 ERA and struck out 17 while walking 4 in 13.1 innings pitched. Ramirez was also a second-team All-American selection in 2010 as well as a first-team Freshman All-American in 2009.

Ramirez is said to great movement on all his pitches, but is mainly a sinker-ball pitcher who hides the ball very well.
