Players of the Week, May 30-June 5: Dan Butler & Felix Doubront

Two of the more heralded prospects during the 2011 season took home SoxProspects Player of the Week honors last week. Salem catcher Dan Butler and Pawtucket left-hander Felix Doubront were both the overwhelming winners in our community poll.

Butler, 24, had a blazing start to the 2011 season, hitting .351/.439/.772 in April before cooling off significantly in May to the tune of .183/.303/.293. Despite Salem going 2-6 during the award period, Butler carried the Red Sox offense, hitting .440/.542/.920 with 3 home runs and 14 RBI. For 2011, Butler is now hitting .263/.375/.500 with 8 home runs and 45 RBI. Due to his outstanding week at the plate, Butler was also named Carolina League Player of the Week.

Doubront, 23, is currently ranked the #4 prospect in the Red Sox system by SoxProspects. Spending the early part of the season on the disabled list with elbow tightness, Doubront has come back strong from his injury. Last week, the southpaw made two starts, allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 10 in 8.0 innings pitched. He has been superb as a member of the Pawtucket Red Sox this season, posting a 1.66 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 7 walks in 21.2 innings pitched.

Despite not winning SoxProspects accolades this week, Portland's Chih-Hsein Chiang took home Eastern League Player of the Week honors and Miles Head of Greenville took home South Atlantic League Player of the Week honors.
