Players of the Week, May 9 to May 15: Bryce Brentz and Michael Bowden

Two players who have had stellar overall seasons are honored with this week's Sox Prospects.com Player and Pitcher of the Week. Greenville's Bryce Brentz earns the award for the hitters, while Pawtucket's Michael Bowden gets the nod to represent the pitchers.

While Brentz's 26-game hitting streak was snapped yesterday, he still put together an unforgettable week before it did. Brentz hit at an anstounding .552/.581/.1.103 clip for the week, smoking four home runs and knocking in 13. In the four games in which Greenville played between Monday and Thursday, Brentz collected 14 of his 16 hits on the week. In that time, he also knocked in nine runs. The 22 year old was awarded Player of the Week honors for the same time period in the South Atlantic League, as well.

Meanwhile, Bowden made three appearances out of the bullpen for the PawSox last week, and in 4.0 innings did not allow a run. The 24 year old also struck out seven batters without issuing a walk. Bowden allowed just four hits for an even 1.00 WHIP, while also posting an excellent 7.00 G/F ratio. It is the second time this year that the members of SoxProspects.com have voted a relief pitcher as Pitcher of the Week.
