Players of the Week, May 2-8: Miles Head & Anthony Ranaudo
This week's SoxProspects.com Player of the Week honorees come in threes, as Miles Head won his third Player of the Week vote of this young season and along with Pitcher of the Week Anthony Ranaudo represents the third time a pair of Greenville teammates have prevailed in the polls thus far.
Ranaudo, 21, took the hill last Friday (May 6) at Kannapolis (CHW), holding the Intimidators to a single hit over six shutout innings, striking out six while walking only one and earning a win. On the season Ranaudo owns a 2-1 record with a 2.30 ERA in 27.1 innings pitched over six starts, allowing seven earned runs on 17 hits, striking out 30 while issuing only 11 walks and holding opposing batters to a .179 average. Anthony was also named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the same period. He is currently the third-ranked prospect in the system by SoxProspects.com
Miles Head, 20, did the majority of his damage early in the week in two games against Asheville (COL), going four-for-four with two doubles Monday, May 2, and three-for-four with a home run the next day. While he went only two-for-ten the rest of the way, that was still good enough to post a .500/.591/.833 line for the week with one home run and three doubles, scoring four runs, batting in four, and earning three bases-on-balls. Over 28 games this season, Head has produced befitting in a manner befiting a winner of three of the five player of the week polls, hitting .310/.378/.619 with nine home runs, eight doubles and 23 runs batted in. He was previously voted player of the week for April 11-17 and April 25-May 1.
