Patrolling the outfield

Continuing our look at Boston’s organizational depth at each position, we come to the outfield. The organization looks well-stocked: outfielders make up a quarter of the SoxProspects.com Top 40 prospects. In addition, the first major promotions in the system this season involved a chain of outfielders advancing a level apiece on Saturday.

Although injuries have put the hurt on the major-league-ready outfield depth in the short term -- as Ryan Kalish, JC Linares, and utility players Yamaico Navarro and Nate Spears are all currently on the Pawtucket DL -- the long-term outlook at the position is arguably the strongest in the system.

Thanks to SoxProspects Senior Editor Chris Hatfield for covering this column for me this week!
