Hernandez' impressive effort leads Salem to victory



5/25 Cup of Coffee: The affiliates take 2 of 3 games in Tuesday's slate of action.

Pawtucket was able to squeak by Toledo (DET) by a score of 3-2 in 10 innings. Josh Reddick and Ronald Bermudez each went 1-4 with an RBI. Reddick scored the game-winning run in the 10th inning on an error. Matt Sheely went 3-5 with a stolen base. Che-Hsuan Lin went 2-5. Andrew Miller got the nod for the PawSox on the mound. Miller went 5 innings and allowed 6 hits and 2 runs. He walked 4 and struck out 4. Michael Bowden got the victory, as he pitched the final 2 innings. Bowden allowed 3 hits, did not allow a run, walked 1 and recorded 2 strikeouts.

Portland got throttled by New Hampshire (TOR), 8-3. There weren’t too many noteworthy offensive performances for the Sea Dogs in this one. Chi-Hsien Chang went 2-5 with a double, a triple and 2 RBI. Jeremy Hazelbaker went 2-3 with 2 walks. Michael Lee started for Portland and took the loss. He lasted 5.1 innings and allowed 9 hits and 5 runs. He did not walk anyone and struck out 4.

Salem clubbed 11 hits en route to an 8-1 victory over Myrtle Beach (TEX). The Salem Sox scored 6 runs in the final 3 frames to blow what had been a close pitcher’s duel wide open. Dan Butler and Reynaldo Rodriguez each went 1-4 with 2 RBI. Zach Gentile went 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Pete Hissey went 2-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Chris Hernandez took the hill for Salem and pitched superbly. Hernandez went 5 innings and allowed 4 hits and a run. He walked 2 and struck out a career-high 7. The outing improves his record to 5-1. Will Latimer relieved Hernandez and threw 3 scoreless innings. He gave up just 1 hit, did not walk a batter, and struck out 2. Anatanaer Batista pitched yet another scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 0.71
