A look at Red Sox first base prospects


With Adrian Gonzalez likely penciled in at first base for years to come, the Red Sox are not in dire need of organizational depth at first base. That becomes even more apparent when you consider that Kevin YoukilisDavid Ortiz, and Jed Lowrie are also capable of manning the position in Gonzalez’s absence. That being said, there could be an opening at designated hitter following the 2011 season if the club opts not to re-sign David Ortiz, so there is some opportunity for major league playing time for the first baseman in the system.
