Cesar Cabral returned to Sox
Left-handed pitcher Cesar Cabral was returned to the Red Sox today after the Tampa Bay Rays selected him in the Rule 5 draft, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.The 21-year-old dazzled in 31.1 relief innings with Low-A Greenville last year, posting a 0.29 ERA while striking out 35 and only walking 7. However, after a promotion to High-A Salem his ERA dipped to 5.81 in 48.0 innings. In 9.2 innings with the Rays this spring he pitched to an ERA of 5.59. The club likely saw him as a potential lefty specialist out of the bullpen, but ultimately decided to go in a different direction.
