Javelinas use fifteen runs to pound Saguaros into submission

11/17 Cup of Coffee: In a short seven inning contest, the Peoria Javelinas flexed their muscle against their inner-city rivals the Saguaros.

An eight run sixth inning vaulted the Javelinas to a 15-2 victory over the Peoria Saguaros on Tuesday.

The Saguaros struck first, plating two runs in the bottom of the first on a pair of RBI singles squeezed around an error by Javelinas third baseman Cord Phelps (CLE). The two runs were the only runs the Saguaros would score in the contest as they were held to just five hits. Phelps helped atone for his error in the top of the third, swatting a solo home run to put the Javelinas on the board. In the fourth, the Javelinas took the lead for good, scoring three times on an RBI single by Mike McDade (TOR), RBI double by Jason Kipnis (CLE) and sacrifice fly by Brandon Barnes (HOU). Adam Loewen (TOR) tacked on a two run home run in the fifth to give the Javelinas a comfortable 6-2 lead. In the sixth, the Saguaros quickly recorded two outs, but then allowed six consecutive hits (four for extra bases) which brought home eight runs. Dustin Ackley (SEA) began the barrage with an RBI double, followed by a Ryan Lavarnway RBI single, Loewen solo home run, McDade double, Kipnis single, and finally a Barnes three-run home run. In the seventh, Lavarnway added a sacrifice fly to bring home the fifteenth and final run for the Javelinas.

Lavarnway was the only Boston player who appeared in the game, going 1 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

The Javelinas will travel to Phoenix to take on the Desert Dogs today at 2:35 EST.
