Javelinas plate five in sixth, down Saguaros

10/24 Cup of Coffee: After falling behind early to their cross-town foes, the Javelinas came back in the middle innings on Saturday to defeat the Saguaros 7-2.

Jose Ruiz (TB) opened the scoring for the Saguaros in the top of the first with an RBI single. It remained that way until the top of the fifth, when the Saguaros drove home another on a Leslie Anderson (TB) sacrifice fly, making it 2-0. But the Javelinas fired back in the bottom half of the inning, tying it up at 2 on a Jason Kipnis (CLE) 2-run homer. After a scoreless top of the sixth, the Javelinas opened the flood gates with five runs in their half. Ryan Lavarnway started the inning with a walk, and back-to-back homers from Eric Thames (TOR) and Koby Clemens (HOU) gave the Javelinas a 5-2 lead. Later in the inning, Matt Lawson (SEA) scored two with a single to left, giving the Javelinas plenty of breathing room for the win.

Lavarnway was 1 for 2 with a pair of walks in the game. Jose Iglesias played shortstop but went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts. Juan Carlos Linares was 0 for 2 before being replaced by Thames in the sixth.

The Javelinas have Sunday off, and return to action on Monday against Surprise, with the game scheduled for 3:35 EST.
