Players of the Month, August: Reynaldo Rodriguez and Pete Ruiz

For the second straight month, a pair of teammates in Greenville have taken home the SoxProspects.com Player of the Month honors. Reynaldo Rodriguez was named Player of the Month, while Pete Ruiz was selected as Pitcher of the Month by the SoxProspects.com staff.

Rodriguez shined in an impressive crowd of hitters, posting a line of .348/.449/.674 in 89 August at-bats. His 7 home runs and 29 RBI were each good for second highest in the organization, while his OPS of 1.123 was tops for the month. After starting slowly, he has steadily improved throughout the season, bringing his batting average up to .278. He has 12 home runs and 53 RBI on the year.

After struggling in May and June, Ruiz has also come on strong of late. In 6 August starts, he went 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP in 34.0 innings pitched. He struck out 40 over that span and has 109 on the season. He was placed on the DL with a wrist injury that is likely to end his season on August 31, sending him home for the winter 10-8 with a 4.19 ERA.
