Saltalamacchia recalled, Cash to disabled list

According to multiple sources, the Red Sox have recalled catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from Triple-A Pawtucket and placed catcher Kevin Cash on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring.

Saltalamacchia, 25, was acquired on July 31st from the Texas Rangers and has seen time at both catcher and first base during his short time in Triple-A Pawtucket. In 5 games with the PawSox, he collected 5 hits in 21 at-bats, adding 2 RBI but striking out 9 times. In parts of 4 major league seasons with the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers, Saltalamacchia has hit .251/.313/.388 with 23 home runs and 94 RBI in 794 at-bats. He figures to serve as the backup to Victor Martinez and see some time at first base with Boston.
