Report: Red Sox sign supplemental first round pick Anthony Ranaudo

According to Alex Speier, the Red Sox have signed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo. Sean McAdam is reporting that the deal is worth $2.55 million.

Ranaudo was considered a consensus top of the first round pick before struggling a bit during his junior season at LSU. In 2010, Ranaudo went 5-3 with a 7.32 ERA, most likely due to mechanical issues and elbow soreness during the season. In 2009, the tall right-hander went 12-3 with a 3.04 ERA, striking out over 11 batters a game to help lead LSU to a national championship. He is known for his plus fastball and curveball as well as excellent control of the strike zone.

Before signing this summer, Ranaudo pitched for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod league, hurling 29.1 scoreless innings.
