Report: Red Sox sign 8th round pick Mathew Price
According to Kendall Rogers of Yahoo! Sports, the Red Sox have signed right-hander Mathew Price from Virginia Tech. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.In two seasons with Virginia Tech, Price had a 10-8 record with a 5.73 ERA. In 17 appearances for the Hokies last season, he threw 91.0 innings with an ERA of 4.95 while striking out 85 batters and walking 26. He is described as having a "live arm" with a 90-92 MPH fastball, a decent high-70's slider, and a developing changeup. Price was drafted in 34th round by the Atlanta Braves in 2008, but did not sign.
