Report: Red Sox sign 2nd round pick Brandon Workman
According to WEEI.com's Alex Speier on Twitter, the Red Sox have signed second round draft pick Brandon Workman. Speier is reporting that the righty from the University of Texas will receive an $800,000 signing bonus, and will report to Ft. Myers to begin his professional career this week.
The subject of tremendous speculation in the days leading up to the deadline, Workman posted a 12-1 record and a 3.43 ERA in 99.2 innings pitched for the Longhorns. He features a low-90's fastball, a plus curveball and a plus cutter, and struck out nearly a batter per inning as a junior.
