Red Sox ink Delgado to minor league deal
According to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter, the Red Sox have signed first baseman Carlos Delgado to a minor league contract. The contract stipulates that Delgado will receive a prorated portion of $3 million once he joins the major league squad, that he can opt out of the deal if he is not promoted to the majors by September 1st and that Boston will not offer him arbitration.
Delgado, who has not played since May of last year, has had a storied major league career in which he has hit .280/.383/.546 with 473 home runs in 17 major league seasons. He is coming off his second hip surgery in as many years and will report to Triple-A Pawtucket to play his way back to the majors.
