Players of the Week, August 6-15: Kolbrin Vitek and Tom Ebert
It was a tale of two polls this week, with Kolbrin Vitek receiving 73 of 75 votes to win Player of the Week honors in a blowout and Tom Ebert edging Jeremiah Bayer by one vote for Pitcher of the Week.
While many of his fellow draftees were still at negotiating table, the 2010 first round pick was putting up big numbers for Lowell. In 5 games, Vitek posted a line of .550/.591/.950 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI. He also stole a pair of bags and added a triple. In 51 games this season, Vitek has 4 home runs and 27 RBI while posting a .780 OPS.
In 5.1 scoreless innings of relief, Ebert struck out 7 and allowed just 1 hit and a pair of walks. He has appeared in 17 games as a piggyback starter for Greenville this season, going 9-4 with a 3.42 ERA and striking out nearly a batter per inning.
