Red Sox send Sanchez to Astros for Kevin Cash

According to Alyson Footer of MLB.com, the Red Sox have reacquired catcher Kevin Cash for infielder Angel Sanchez. After stints with Toronto and Tampa Bay, Cash initially joined the organization in 2007 and saw time with the Red Sox in 2007 and 2008. He played in the Yankees organization last season, and the light-hitting but defensively sound catcher is an immediate candidate to return to his old role as Jason Varitek's backup in the absence of Victor Martinez.

Sanchez signed with the Red Sox as a minor league free agent in December of 2009 after eight years with Kansas City and one with Toronto. He hit .274 in 62 games with Pawtucket, and was 0 for 3 in 2 stints with the big club. Sanchez fills an immediate need as a utility infielder for the Astros.
